CARLIN AIR’S FAQ’S

  • How do we get to your location?
    We will pick you up near your ship 15 minutes prior to your flightseeing tour. After the tour is over, we will drop you back at your ship or any other downtown location that you choose.
  • How many people fit on your airplane?
    We fly a DeHavilland Beaver and 6 passengers is our usual flight size. (We can take 7 passengers if the weight load will allow).
  • What is your safety record?
    We have a 100% safety record. All of our pilots are local and have a minimum of 9000 flight hours. Safety is our #1 priority.
  • Does everyone have a window seat?
    Yes! The lucky person in the back seat will have windows on both sides!
  • Can I ride “co-pilot”?
    We will try to honor your request, but the pilot has the final say in loading the plane based on weight and balance.
  • Is the flight narrated?
    Absolutely! We have voice activated headsets so the pilot will talk to you about what you are seeing and you can ask questions or talk to him.
  • Do you offer discounts for groups?
    Yes, please call or email with your group size and we will discuss the group discount.
  • How long is the Misty Fjords tour?
    It is a 90 minute tour. About 75 minutes of flying and a 15 minute remote landing in the fjords. Please allow 2 hours which includes the pickup and drop off time.
  • How should I dress? Do I need a coat?
    On any trip to Southeast Alaska it is always advisable to dress in layers and to bring a light hooded rain jacket. You will have a good idea of the weather and temperature when you arrive in port. The weather will be similar or a bit nicer in the Misty Fjords.
  • Should I tip the pilot?
    While this is always a personal decision, if you feel that your pilot met or exceeded your expectations, by all means, tip him.
  • What is required to make a reservation?
    We need to know what date you are coming into Ketchikan and if you are on a ship, which ship you will be arriving on. Also every passenger’s name and body weight, a cell phone number that you will be traveling with and Credit Card info for the deposit.
  • What is your cancellation policy?
    If you need to cancel you tour more than 14 days prior to the tour date, I refund your deposit LESS 10% to cover our fees. **** For our Anan Creek Bear Viewing tour, the cancelation period is not less than 30 days prior to the tour****
  • What if the weather is terrible on the day of our tour?
    As it rains in Ketchikan nearly every day, we do fly in the rain and when it is safe to fly. In case of inclement weather, the pilot makes the decision based on safety. If the pilot does cancel the flight for any reason, you receive a full refund of your deposit.
  • What happens if my ship is late or skips the Ketchikan port?
    If you miss your flight because the ship is late, we try to accommodate you, either on the next flight or on a flight with one of our neighbor companies. If that is not possible then we give you a full refund. If your skips the port, you will get a full refund.
  • Can you drop me off at a different location than the ship?
    Absolutely! We are happy to drop you anywhere within the core downtown area. Creek Street is often a popular drop off site.
